Important gotcha with Google indexing of Flex content

Submitted by Falken on

A while ago it was announced that Google would index text contained in Flex (and Flash) applications.

Unfortunately, as Matt Chotin confirmed on the FlexCoders mailing list, if your Flex application uses the file-size-reducing RSL cache then Google will actually see 'Error #2032. RSL Error 1 of 1', as Matt explains latter:

This is due to Google not yet executing network requests from the SWF. Something that they’re working on.

The flip side is that in the same thread Matt says the penetration of RSLs is really good and goes on to say

We’re hosting the RSLs starting with Flex 4, you’ll see them hosted in the public beta

So end users will be able to see even more benefit to developers using this technology.
